The recruitment process for Ireland’s 2011 census is due to begin shortly with 5,000 enumerators needed. Enumerators will work on a part-time basis for a ten week period between March and May 2011, with average earnings of €2,200.

Each enumerator will be responsible for approximately 400 houses in their allocated region. According to the CSO:

“The enumerator must carry out a visual survey of their area and verify the location of all the dwellings listed in their record book; they must also locate and mark on the map any dwellings not already listed”.

Around 15,000 people are expected to apply for the 5,000 jobs on offer so competition for job positions will be high. There are courses available, such as that offered by Chevron Training, that are specifically designed to aid people in their application.

The application process begins on January 4th and closes on January 11th, 2011. Interested applicants are invited to pre-register on the Census 2011 website.

Sunday April 10th, 2011 is census night in Ireland.
