Best apps to simplify your next holiday

Holidays should be a time of relaxation, but we’ve all had those trips where, at some point, we’ve wished we had stayed at home. Sometimes, everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. These apps have been designed and listed here to help you avoid that experience and help you answer those pesky questions that pop up while planning your next adventure.

When to go?

Flightsayer is an app that gives you real time predictions for your flight before you book it. Using predictive analysis, they identify delay patterns on millions of flights to help you spot and avoid the most common delays. These are then aggregated by a risk system that ranks from High Delay Risk to Low Delay Risk. If you’ve picked a flight that is high on the risk scale, Flightsayer will find you other flights that are less likely to cause you a travel headache.

App coming soon, but you can try it in beta for free at the website, linked above.

What to do?

Gogobot allows you to either use your current location or search any city in the world for things to do. If you’re one of those people who wants to see as much as possible but isn’t sure how to fit it all in, Gogobot will help you decide based on previous user ratings. It’s AI system (currently only available on iOS) can also look at weather conditions, time of day, and other possible factors when giving you recommendations, so you shouldn’t be caught biking through the mountains and get caught in a thunderstorm.

Staying in touch

If you’re traveling for less than a month there’s no point in getting a local SIM. But people want to keep in touch with their friends and family back home. Avast WiFi Finder does exactly what it says on the tin. It will show you all the WiFi networks in your area and tell you if they are private or public. But that’s not all, with previous user ratings, it will also show the reliability of each network and which network is the most secure. Upload away, friends.

Expenses

I don’t know about you, but I always go over budget during my travels. I don’t know how, but the money always seems to disappear. With Expensify you can keep track of all of your transactions which will keep a running total of how much you’ve spent so far. Perfect for travelers exploring the world on a shoestring. You can either take a picture of your receipt or input manually. Available for both individuals and businesses, they offer a free service and a paid which starts at $5 per month. You can also sync it with your bank cards, should you find yourself in an area without an ATM.

Nicolas has spent time in Asia, Canada and Colombia watching people and wondering just what the heck they'd do without their phones; but only because he wonders the same of himself.
