The nominations for this year’s Eircom Spiders was announced today. There are 20 categories this year including the overall Grand Prix winner that is chosen from the winners of the other 19.
So join us as we take a quick tour of this year’s nominees.
The usual companies are vying for the Best Web Design & Development Agency this year but with some noteworthy recent projects including Eircom’s eMobile, Newstalk, Today FM, Hibernian Aviva, The Big Switch and this years big winner at the Irish Web Awards, The Irish Times site, in this mix this year’s winner will not be easy to predict. The full list is,
RTE’s newly redesigned news site does not make it into the nomination for Best News site. Interestingly this year’s nominees includes only one newspaper’s site although Ireland’s radio stations are well represented with three nominations.
The One to Watch category which celebrates “the most innovative indigenous website launched in the last twelve months” contains an eclectic mix of websites, such as the Irish men’s website joe.ie and the site for an Athlone based dry clearners.
Perhaps significantly the nominations for the Financial Services award includes only one major Irish bank up for nomination, permanent tsb, while it includes number of sites for money saving sites such as PayLessTax.ie and bonkers.ie.
For the Entertainment category Radio stations are again well represented with 98fm.com, spin1038.com looking to get the nod with music sites HeinekenMusic.ie and Oxegen 2010 Music Festival also in the mix. Controversially Hunky Dorys’ mini-site for their “Sexy Scrum” ad campaign is also included.
On the other side strong web development and design skills feature in the 2010 Graduate category.
A full list of the nominees can be found on the Spiders’ website. You can follow the awards on Twitter @eircomspiders and on Facebook at eircomspiders.
