Search locations by voice in Google Maps

Voice search in Google Maps

Google announced earlier today that users of its Chrome web browser can now use voice input to search locations in Google Maps. Earlier this year Google introduced voice search to google.com, similar to the same technology that has been available on Android devices for some time now.

Searching by voice command is currently only available on maps.google.com. Voice search is initiated by clicking the microphone icon in the right-hand-side of the Google Maps search box, then speaking your desired destination in the direction of your computer.

In my experience however, Google’s speech recognition doesn’t work too well with Irish accents, particularly a north Monaghan one. Assuming an American English accent does tend to yield better results.

Voice search in Google Maps is another welcome addition from Google as they prepare us for a mobile world where suddenly a keyboard isn’t the most practical form of search input.

 • Thank you! I have tried with the help of tutorials I found thanks to good ol' google before and it was a giant mess. Maybe because I was switching tabs? Who knows ... in any case, this will make it easy and I may become an obnoxious overuser of this posting now. Thanks, Lauren!Nice experiment! I’m impatient to see the long-term effect on this one :) Will you post more info after a month-two-three?cheap hosting reviews
