Skype's multi-user video chat
Skype, the internet’s most well-known voice, video and instant messaging service, may be building an HTML5-based web application if recent job postings are anything to go by.
Microsoft, Skype’s relatively new owners, are currently seeking three software development engineers to work specifically on “Skype for browsers”. Key job responsibilities include “real world experience developing HTML5 UI’s” involving “rich interaction based on JavaScript”.
Part of the job description brief reads,
“Team at Skype is looking for passionate, team-oriented and self-motivated developers to help us bring Skype experience on to the Web.
“You will have a chance to integrate existing Skype solutions onto the web with the support of the backend services build from the ground up using latest Microsoft technologies.”
An HTML5 Skype browser app would allow the service to run on more browsers and devices, like Safari on the iPhone or iPad or on Windows Phone, without the need to install any additional software. While the job listings point with a degree of certainty that Skype are building a web-based app, this has yet to be officially confirmed.
The job positions are based in Prague and London.

and opera
have been working on the WebRTC spec to enable in browser real time communications. There's even a demo site where you can have a full video conference between two computers running Chrome.
