Lee Everett and Glenn surrounded
The Walking Dead, a video-game adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic book series of the same name is coming to the PlayStation Network this Wednesday. The five part episodic game series by developer Telltale Games is based strictly on the world seen in the comic book, with the addition of a new lead character Lee Everett.
While the game exists in the same world and in “roughly the same geographical location” as Rick Grimes, the comic’s protagonist, it tells a new story that revolves around the new lead character Lee Everett – a convict serving a life sentence for killing a man “romantically” involved with his wife. The story begins while Rick is still in a coma.
Various locations and characters from the comic will feature and for whom we’ll get a better understanding of. The games reveals Glenn’s back-story before he heads to Atlanta.
The Walking Dead is “darker and more violent” than anything Telltale Games has produced to date. Its storyline “branches” according to game decisions – decisions that affect the player throughout an episode or even throughout the entire series.
“You could answer a question in a certain way and have a character become suspicious of your motives, or you could be forced to choose who to save when two people are in mortal peril but only one can be yanked back from the zombie horde. Your decisions will stay with you throughout the series, and their repercussions could mean that you and a friend have a very different game experience.”
Little of the gameplay has been revealed but we’ve been warned not to expect any high-powered weaponry. Instead, killing and surviving will be a “much more personal experience” where resources are limited and noise attracts trouble. Weapons revealed in various screenshots include an axe, a screwdriver and a pistol.
The game’s environment is an open world free for Lee to explore and persist through action sequences and serious “survival-oriented puzzle arcs”.
The first episode in the five part series, titled ‘A New Day’, will be available to purchase on the PlayStation Store from Tuesday, April 24 in the United States, and Wednesday, April 25 in Europe. Subsequent episodes will becomes available at monthly intervals. Each episode costs €4.99/£3.99 or €19.99/£15.99 for the total season.

I certainly hope they manage to be successful with episodic content. Many others have failed.
