If you like Android as much as we do then you’ll want to pop down to Australia pretty soon to visit Androidland.
Oz based telecommunication company, Telstra (@telstra | Facebook | Flickr | Google+), has officially opened Androidland – the world’s first store designed completely around Google’s Android operating system.
And when we say completely we mean completely.
Androidland has the usual things you’d expect in a phone store; the latest handsets, accessories, and some shiny gadgets. It also happens to have dozens of Android toys and games; as well as food, including Android-themed cupcakes, gingerbread Android men, (although we can’t see any froyo around), Android slushies, and coffee (we’re hoping the coffee isn’t green coloured too). The shop also smells like gingerbread, just for good measure.
Plugging into Google’s other products the store allows you to sign up with a Google account, Androidify yourself and play with a few apps but that’s not the best of it.
The store itself is designed as a spaceship and with an Android tablet hooked up to nine massive flat screens you can pilot the ship using Google Earth.
The 154 square meter shop is located in Melbourne’s Bourke Street and was built with the help of Samsung, HTC, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, LG, and Google but it won’t be a permanent feature on the high street. Telstra says that this is just the first test of the themed store, and if successful could be rolled out elsewhere.
