Sky’s the Limit

Tens of thousands of Sky HD customers across the UK and Ireland have been temporarily locked out of their digital TV subscriptions following what has been reported as an errant firmware update.

Sky Digital users who subscribe to the company’s Sky+ Anytime noticed on Saturday evening that their €50-plus subscription service crashed when they tried to use view programmes stored on the Sky Box’s hard disk.

There is no official news from Sky about the actual cause of the error or when customers will be able to use their Sky boxes freely again although Sky’s other digital TV offerings, including their Planner service, do not seem to be affected by the error.

With a lack of news from Sky HQ rumours circling on Twitter and several A/V forms suggest that it could be Wednesday 22nd before the problem is fixed.

The advice for Sky customers is to turn off and on the Sky Anytime service using the on-screen guide. Word of warning, although this will fix the problem it will also clear any programmes stored in the Anytime EPG (but not the Planner) and there is no guarantee that the system won’t crash again.

It seems until the error is fixed all we can do is Believe in Better
