As Apple teams up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a 3.46 minute commercial to promote Siri, we take a look back at other Apple celebrity endorsements from the near and distant past.
The ad that was released yesterday, and displays Dwayne Johnson completing a series of insane tasks packed into one day with the assistance of Siri. The star is well known for his frequent roles in action films such as “The Fast and Furious” franchise, which undeniably helped him to secure the title of highest paid actor in the world in 2016.
The tech giant worked in collaboration with the celebrity’s production company, Seven Bucks Productions, to create the humorous, action packed advert.
This is on the heels of Apple’s recent release of new products featuring Siri, such as the HomePod, smart speaker which was unveiled in June. Siri is built into The HomePod and and assists users with tasks. Despite it’s popularity, Siri still has competition from other leading brands such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant.
Johnson has expressed a strong interest in running for president and reportedly was contacted by both Trump and Clinton’s campaigns for an endorsement, according to The Guardian.
Clearly, the mega star is hot property at the moment making him an excellent partner for Apple’s Siri. From the beginning of its “Think different” campaign, first launched in 1997, Apple has tried to associate itself with the most influential and innovative figures in history. Some of its commercials have featured some of Hollywood’s finest.

Jeff Goldblum
The oldest feature on our list stars the Jurassic Park actor, Jeff Goldblum in a wonderfully dated commercial about a revolutionary new wonder known as email. The advert was released in 1998, and has some fantastic expressions summarising the buzz surrounding Email at the time such as “You’re part of the party” (for having an email address) states Goldblum.
Samuel L. Jackson
Similar to Dwayne Johnson’s latest ad, this commercial highlights the multiple uses of Siri as Samuel L Jackson prepares for date night. Apple released Siri in 2011, making this one of the first adverts to promote the now world famous feature.
Will Ferrell
This short 30 second clip makes the most of the famous comedy actors’ chucklesome sense of humour. The star pokes fun at political correctness regarding Christmas whilst promoting Apple’s products in a Santa outfit.
