VLC Player on the iPad
iPad users can breath a sigh of relief as VLC today announced the launch of its open source Media Player on the App store on this Tuesday.
The release of VLC Player for the portable device will allow iPad users to play video files from a larger selection of codecs than those currently allowed by Apple.
According to the official description on the App Store “[VLC]… comes with support for nearly all codec there is. And what is more it can even play back the file or media if it is damaged! Missing or broken pieces are no stop to VLC, it plays all the video and audio information that’s still intact.”
It has been reported that this release comes as a result of the recent easing of the App store submission guidelines by Apple.
We will report back when we get our hands on the app later this week. For those who cannot wait this link will host the download file once it becomes avalable.
An iPhone app is currently in the works but no launch date has been confirmed.
