If reports surfacing in the last 24 hours are true, Twitter is about to launch another monetization feature – “Promoted Accounts”.

According to Peter Kafka (@pkafka) of All Things Digital, Twitter will show off its “Promoted Accounts” later today at the IAB MIXX conference in New York.

Twitter already offers Promoted Tweets and Promoted Trends, so “Promoted Accounts” would seem a logical progression in Twitter’s monetization strategy. This new feature will work similar to Promoted Tweets, where brands pay to be placed amongst the ‘Who To Follow’ recommendations on Twitter’s website. “Promoted Accounts” will also have the same relevancy feature to ensure that appropriate suggestions are served only to those likely to follow a particular brand.

This isn’t the only change coming to Twitter’s advertising efforts. It’s also been reported yesterday by Ad Age that Twitter plans to extend Promoted Tweets to third party Twitter clients like TweetDeck and Hootsuite. “Twitter plans in November to take its ads beyond Twitter.com and extend them to the rest of the user base through apps such as TweetDeck and Hootsuite”.
