Twitter upgrades search, integrates with Firefox and partners with Photobucket

Twitter has announced that it has upgraded its internal search, now integrates with search on the Firefox web browser and has partnered with Photobucket to host photos that can now be directly uploaded from Twitter.

#welovetwitter

Twitter’s new search is described as a “ground-up rewrite of the infrastructure” by its engineers. It promises more relevant tweets, as well as related photos and videos within search results.

“It’s never been easier to get a sense of what’s happening right now, wherever your curiosity takes you.”

Mozilla and Twitter have also collaborated to bring official Twitter integration into the popular web browser Firefox. Twitter hashtags and usernames can be inputted directly into the address bar of the browser which will subsequently direct the user right into Twitter’s search results page. Users can download Firefox with Twitter as a complete package, or alternatively, for current Firefox users, can download the Twitter Firefox add-on. The add-on is compatible with the latest version of Firefox.

Over the next few weeks Twitter will also release a new photo upload feature that we reported on at the start of this week. This new feature will allow Twitter users to attach an image to a tweet directly within Twitter. It will also become available in all official Twitter mobile apps “soon”. Twitter have partnered with Photobucket to host all user uploaded images.

It’s rumoured that Apple may announce direct Twitter integration in iOS 5, the next iteration of the iPhone and iPad’s operating system, next week at WWDC.
