Twitter’s Dublin office & self-service ads platform take a step closer

Things are moving apace for Twitter’s Dublin offices and the company’s self-service ad platform. Two weeks ago it hired Dublin Googler Stephen McIntyre to head up the ad platform and on Friday McIntyre confirmed that his new job starts next Monday (March 12).

Tweeting in reply to a question from the Undergraduates’ Awards Programme Director, Louise Hodgson (@LouHodg),  McIntyre said that he starts in his role as Online Sales and Operations next week.  He also mentioned that more jobs will be up for grabs in Twitter Ireland “in a few weeks.”

Twitter’s self-service ad platform was piloted in late 2011 with fewer than 100 companies and is due to fully launch later this year.  The system is designed to allow advertisers to manage their Twitter ad campaigns without the need to interact with sales reps.  The service has been undergoing a gradual release and since February US companies that accept American Express have been able to sign up.

Twitter is pushing their ads platform hard this year as the social network continues to see impressive growth in traffic and membership.  The site is currently offering $100 to the first 10,000 US “Cardmembers and merchants that register” for the platform, which is due to fully launch at the end of the month.

Even with the gradual release schedule Twitters’ self-service ad platform is expected to be a money spinner for the company.  eMarketer Inc expects Twitter to sell over $260 million worth of ads this year, up from $140 million in 2011.

As for Ireland, Twitter currently has three roles on its jobs site for Dublin, these are in the areas of administration, user safety and spam-busting.
