Gardaí warn of sophisticated AIB ATM skimming scam in operation

Gardaí and the National Consumer agency today warned ATM consumers to careful of very convincing skimming devices that have been found attached to AIB ATMs. Devises have been found fitted over the newer-style AIB ATMs which convincingly mimic the design of the distinctive green AIB ATM card slots. The only give away that the skimming device are attach is the square ‘handle’ on the top of the card slot.

Geolocation apps causing new privacy and safety fears for smartphone users

Smartphone users are becoming more concerned about their privacy when using geolocation apps, according to a survey released by Microsoft this week to coincide with Data Privacy Day. The survey found that users have a host of concerns for their privacy when using location based phone apps Some 84% of respondents said that they fear such applications could be used to help unknown people steal personal information or identities.

German fallout with Google over analytics privacy concerns

Data protection authorities in Germany have ended year-long talks with Google over concerns that they have with the data that Google Analytics gathers on website visitors. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, German companies may face legal action if they are found to be using the free service from Google.
