Insurance companies and brokers are increasingly looking to scale their operations, expand specialized capabilities and integrate businesses that serve different segments of the market. As competition and operating costs shape strategic decisions, consolidation is becoming one way for firms to broaden their reach and combine expertise.
The global insurance industry’s mergers and acquisitions deal value reached approximately $104 billion in 2025, up from $88 billion in 2024, according to McKinsey. The increase reflects continued activity across the sector, as insurers and brokers reassess their portfolios and pursue opportunities for growth and operational efficiency.
Against this backdrop, Founder Shield is completing its transition to The Baldwin Group brand, becoming the parent company’s Innovation Practice. The move formalizes the integration of the risk management business, which joined The Baldwin Group in 2021, under a unified corporate identity.
Founder Shield specializes in insurance solutions for high-growth companies, including businesses in life sciences, technology, media, financial services and small business. The company has served more than 20,000 clients through a digital insurance platform developed over more than a decade.
A broader platform for high-growth companies
The rebrand brings Founder Shield’s specialized expertise into The Baldwin Group’s broader insurance distribution business. The company says Founder Shield will continue serving clients with specialized insurance products and risk management services as part of the Innovation Practice.
“Founder Shield brings capabilities and talent that make The Baldwin Group a stronger, more integrated firm,” said Michael Robinson, President, Innovation Practice at The Baldwin Group.
“As our Innovation Practice, we are adding momentum to a firm built for what’s ahead, and we couldn’t be more excited to finalize the brand transition.”
The transition is not presented as a discontinuation of Founder Shield’s services. Its insights, resources and client portals will remain accessible through foundershield.com and baldwin.com.
Kyle Jeziorski, Managing Director, Innovation Practice at The Baldwin Group, said the change would expand the company’s capabilities while maintaining its commitment to clients.
“The Founder Shield name may be changing, but its commitment to clients remains as strong as ever,” Jeziorski said.
“This transition opens the door to broader capabilities, greater collaboration, and a forward-thinking approach to risk and insurance that helps protect the possible for clients.”
Integration under The Baldwin Group
Since Founder Shield joined the company in 2021, The Baldwin Group says it has expanded its capabilities, providing growing businesses with additional solutions as they progress from early-stage development to larger-scale operations.
The parent company operates as an independent insurance distribution firm under The Baldwin Insurance Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: BWIN). Its services span risk management, insurance and employee benefits. The company reports representing more than three million clients across the United States and internationally.
Founder Shield’s transition illustrates how an acquisition can lead to a more integrated brand and operating structure. The business will retain its focus on emerging companies while operating under the Innovation Practice designation.
The announcement does not specify changes to Founder Shield’s product portfolio, pricing or operating structure beyond the rebrand and its integration into the Innovation Practice. The company says it will continue delivering specialized expertise and services to clients as part of The Baldwin Group.
