As Sony restores network, it warns users to reset their passwords

Sony is warning users that they must reset their hacked Qriocity passwords as a ‘safety measure’ before they can access the network.  The company made the warning in an email set out today.

Qriocity,as well as PlayStation Network accounts,  have been inaccessible for the past month.  Sony brought down the network when they discovered that users’ information had been stolen in a targeted attack.

Earlier in the month Sony emailed Qriocity and PlayStation Network users warning them to be on the look out for phishing scams.  The company is afriad that leaked user information could be used to scam users.

Although the company has blamed Anonymous the group has said it was not responsible.

The full text of Sony’s email;

 

Dear Qriocity™ user,

As you may have heard, Qriocity services and PlayStation®Network were suspended worldwide on 20 April 2011 following a criminal cyber attack on our servers.

We’re pleased to say that we have now started restoring some Qriocity services. Current subscribers can access Q Music Unlimited via PC and PlayStation® devices. Access to Q Music Unlimited via Sony Blu-ray Players, BRAVIA televisions, Home Audio, Video and Network devices will follow.

Keep an eye on www.qriocity.com for the very latest developments. We will also send a further email clarifying restoration of Qriocity services.

Please reset your password now

In restoring Qriocity, we have introduced a safety measure which means you will need to update your Qriocity account password before you can start using Qriocity again.

You can change your password at https://account.qriocity.com/ on your PC. You will need to enter your existing Sign-In ID (Email address) and existing password. An email message will be sent to your registered email address. Follow the instructions in the email message to change your password.
