Cardinals, bishops, diocesan finance leaders and institutional investment professionals will gather in New York City on September 16 to 17 for the Catholic Faith Investors Summit, a two-day event aimed at aligning how the Church invests its money with what it teaches about how money should be used.
The Summit, held under the banner “Your influence. Where it matters. Now.”, is being organized by the Catholic Faith Investor Alliance, a global network of Catholic institutional investors. It opens with Holy Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, moves into a full day of keynotes, fireside chats, and Synod-style roundtables at the New York Athletic Club, and closes with a Holy Hour of Adoration and networking reception.
The event’s organizers say attendees will represent institutions collectively managing more than $250 billion USD in Catholic institutional assets, including dioceses, eparchies, foundations, and religious congregations among them.
Behind the gathering: the framework
Much of the Summit’s substance traces back to the 2022 Mensuram Bonam Vatican document, published by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. It lays out a three-part approach for faith-consistent investing.
First, engaging as an active owner of a company; enhancing a portfolio through investments that generate measurable positive impact; and treating exclusion, represented as simply avoiding an investment altogether, as a last resort instead of the default move.
That framework, combined with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ own socially responsible investment guidelines, has increasingly become the practical playbook dioceses and Catholic institutions use when deciding where their capital goes.
“Aligning investment practices with deeply held Catholic values,” said Michael Skillman, managing director of institutional consulting services at Beacon Pointe Advisors, of the purpose of the gathering.
Meanwhile, Steve Nelson, chairman and CEO of Faith Investor Services, called the Summit “a unique space for mission-based investment collaboration.”
What’s on the agenda
The 2026 session digs into some of the harder practical questions facing Catholic investors: how to evaluate individual companies against Church teaching, and how institutions can balance faith-aligned mandates with fiduciary duty and financial performance.
Speakers include Fr. Séamus Finn, OMI, a contributor to Mensuram Bonam, alongside investment professionals from Mercer/Marsh, FINALEC, Sage Advisory Services, Faith Investor Services, and Breckinridge Capital Advisors.
Last year’s summit drew more than 100 delegates, and its opening Mass was concelebrated by Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Cardinal Peter Turkson. Turkson was closely involved in the shaping of Mensuram Bonam.
