Share a happy thought with O2 and help promote youth mental health

O2 Ireland wants you to share a happy thought on Twitter or Facebook to help promote young people’s mental health in Ireland.

The telecommunications company has parntered with the Dublin-based charity Headstrong, @HeadstrongYMH to raise awareness of mental health issues in young people who are at risk of suicide or self-harm.

For each tweet and status update submitted via the site (here) the company will donate €1 to Headstrong. So far over €1,100 has been raised, and the amount is increasing fast. Anyone can take part, you do not need to be an O2 customer.

O2 and Headstrong also want people to submit ideas for projects they believe could benefit young people in the community.  Of all the ideas received, O2 will work with the originators of the ones they believe to be the best to put them into action.

[…] we want to hear about any ideas for projects you might have that would make a difference to young people and their mental health. We’ll be selecting projects that we think have the potential for a big impact and we will help and support you to make them happen.

The submissions process is open to people aged between 14 and 25 with ideas to promote good mental health in the Republic of Ireland. People in Northern Ireland and the UK can submit ideas to the UK version of the site.

A list of ideas, including a Flashmob in Kerry, the possible reopening of a local leisure centre, the distribution of a credit card sized mental health information card and something intriguingly called “Mental Muffin Mondays,” can be found on the O2 site.
