RTÉ Player coming to Android and iPhone later this year

RTÉ will release Android and iOS versions of their popular video-on-demand RTÉ Player service later this year. According to Silicon Republic, Aisling McCabe, head of platform development at RTÉ, confirmed RTÉ’s plans to release free mobile apps for the two platforms late last week.

Google to permanently shut down Google Video by May 13

Google have announced via an email sent to Google Video users that it is shutting down the service permanently next month. Google Video stopped accepting user upload in May 2009 but has now decided to remove all video from the service which it will close indefinitely on May 13.

Free live TV from Magnet WebTV available to stream on 99% of devices

Live TV streaming service Magnet WebTV have recently extended the availability of their service to 99% of all devices. Launched in January of this year, Magnet WebTV have upgraded their streaming service to support HTML5 video, effectively enabling a plethora of new devices that don’t support traditional Adobe Flash video, including the Apple iPhone and iPad.

BBC confirms reduced online services with revised service license

Following on from budget cuts announced by the BBC at the start of this year regarding the national broadcaster’s online services, the BBC Trust has today published their revised service license for BBC Online. In January the BBC Trust announced a 25% budget reduction for BBC Online which would directly result in the loss of 360 jobs and the closure of over 400 BBC websites.
