YouTube is celebrating 50 years of manned space flight by premiering a feature length film which recreates Yury Gagarin’s first orbit in outer space. The film combines original audio and video recordings of the flight with HD footage taken from the International Space Station. A new score was written epsessially for the piece by composer Philip Sheppard.
Google’s algorithmic change targeting content farms and low-quality websites introduced last month has been rolled out globally to benefit all English language users. Today’s rollout also takes into consideration feedback from Google Search users which can now directly impact on a site’s search rank.
O2 Ireland wants you to share a happy thought on Twitter or Facebook to help promote young people’s mental health in Ireland. The telecommunications company has parntered with the Dublin-based charity Headstrong, @HeadstrongYMH work to raise awareness of mental health issues in young people who are at risk of suicide or self-harm.
Continuing on from the success of last year’s Digitise the Nation campaign, the Irish Internet Association (IIA) are staging another such event next month from Monday May 9th to Friday May 13th. The main aim of the event is to “help get everyone online”.
Hacker group Anonymous plan to stage a 24-hour sit-in protest this Saturday April 16 in Sony stores worldwide. The offline protest has been organised in response to Sony’s recently introduced restrictions on custom software that users sometimes run on their console and lawsuits taken against such Sony PlayStation 3 modifiers.
