Trócaire challenges Facebook users to ‘give it up’ for a day

Irish charity Trócaire is inviting Facebook users to give up something they love for just one day, to raise money for charitable causes across the world. From March 3 to 4 this year Trócaire, which runs over 124 programmes in 38 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, is challenging Facebook users to sponsor their friends who give up using one of dozens of items or activities, including Food, The Web, Coffee, Music, Texting, Make Up, Chocolate or TV for 24 hours.

AOL to acquire The Huffington Post for $315 million

American news website and content aggregator The Huffington Post will be acquired by AOL for $315 million US dollars, in a deal expected to close in the coming months. Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington will become president and editor-in-chief of a new Huffington Post Media Group, which will include The Huffington Post and other AOL content properties, including recently acquired TechCrunch, gadget blog Endadget, and micro-local news service Patch.

Skype is giving away free WiFi for Social Media Week

To celebrate Social Media week 2011, Skype will be giving away freey WiFi access in eight cities around the world. Citizens in New York, San Francisco, Rome, Paris, Toronto, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong and Istanbul, who use Skype Access, will be able to make VOIP calls and surf for free at public WiFi hotspots for free during the week.
