To celebrate Social Media week 2011, Skype will be giving away freey WiFi access in eight cities around the world. Citizens in New York, San Francisco, Rome, Paris, Toronto, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong and Istanbul, who use Skype Access, will be able to make VOIP calls and surf for free at public WiFi hotspots for free during the week.

Guinness’s ‘There is more life in the dark’ campaign airs on Irish television

Irish International BBDO is premiering its new international ad for Diagio’s Guinness brand, Dark Life, on Irish television this weekend. The latest in Guinness’s iconic commercials uses state-of-the-art digital post production techniques, as well as some nice Canon 5D digital cameras, to superimpose the famous stout’s head settling over some global cityscapes. It was directed by French director Frederic Planchon and filmed in cities from New York, Bogota & Hong Kong

Esquire magazine, the cover model and augmented reality

It sounds like something from 80s cult classic Weird Science but next month Esquire readers and Barnes and Nobel customers will be able to ‘interact’ with a life size virtual supermodel. US lad’s mag Esquire will be giving its readers an “active and engaging experience” with its latest cover girl, Brooklyn Decker, through their iPhones. From February Barnes and Noble customers will be able interact and take pictures alongside Decker using a custom built Esquire iPhone app.

Timelapse of snow storm in United States and Canada

North eastern America and Canada are suffering some of the worst winter storms in decades this week. NASA has already released satellite imagery of the continent blanketed in snow and several areas have already declared a state of emergency. Many parts of the New York, Philadelphia and Boston have seen 29 inches (73CM) of snow and to put this into context Vimeo user Michael Black has published a timelapse video, recorded over a 20 hour period, of the swathe of snow covering the States.
