Search locations by voice in Google Maps

Google announced earlier today that users of its Chrome web browser can now use voice input to search locations in Google Maps. Earlier this year Google introduced voice search to google.com, similar to the same technology that has been available on Android devices for some time now.

Aerial photography confirms existence of unknown tribe deep in Brazilian Amazon

The Brazilian government has announced the discovery of a previously unknown tribe of people living deep in the Amazon rainforest. The tribe was first discovered when satellite imagery showed clearings which were likely caused by human activity. Funai, the Brazilian Government agency responsible for the protection of indigenous tribes later confirmed their existence during a fly-past in April.

Google releases imagery update in Google Earth

The Google LatLong team have released an imagery update which is available now in Google Earth and Google Maps. The update is extensive and includes high resolution aerial imagery updates for Australia, Japan, Scotland, Wales and the US, and satellite imagery updates for eighty-five countries, including large parts of Ireland.

NASA shows location & intensity of Japanese earthquakes, aftershocks and foreshocks

NASA’s Earth Observatory has issued a map documenting the number of earthquakes, foreshocks and aftershocks that have rocked Japan this week. According to NASA the tsunami that resulted from the 8.9 magnitude quake occurred 24.4 kilometers (15.2 miles) below the seabed, 130 kilometers (80 miles) east of Sendai. The earthquake was preceded by a number of smaller foreshocks which began on March 9, including one that measured 7.2 on the Richter scale.
