Google Ireland has paid a fine of €450 after one of its Street View cars parked illegally on Main Street, Castleisland, Co. Kerry. The internet giant made the contribution to the court "poor box" to avoid a conviction under Ireland's Road Traffic Act.
Google has taken its leading Mapping service indoors and is now allowing the public to create floor plans for public buildings. The company says that the Android-only indoor maps will be about as accurate as their outdoor equivalent and the system will even be able to judge which floor you’re on.
The Google Earth and Google Maps team published an imagery update earlier today which, as usual, contains some really interesting sites. Ireland is not featured is this update, but large parts of Scotland and England, among others, are.
A Counter-Strike: Source modder has recreated the Abbottābad compound where Osama bin Laden was killed by elite US Navy Seals on May 1. The playable level, fy_abbottabad, painstakingly recreates the terrorist leader's Pakistani hideout allowing gamers to battle each other online in the structure.
Google have today released an advanced preview imagery update encompassing parts of Abbottābad, Pakistan where Al Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden was killed during a co-ordinated and deadly assault by American Navy SEALs and CIA paramilitary forces. The update, which Google describes as "of particular interest", is only available as an advanced preview KML file viewable in Google Earth, and will be included in Google's next scheduled imagery update.
The Google LatLong team have released an imagery update which is available now in Google Earth and Google Maps. The update is extensive and includes high resolution aerial imagery updates for Australia, Japan, Scotland, Wales and the US, and satellite imagery updates for eighty-five countries, including large parts of Ireland.
